Chit, Chat & Chop

Pump House Restaurant in Moncton.

I've never really been one for New Year's Resolutions. To me they're kind of like rules or turnip. Don't like 'em.

But this one's an easier one. Eat, and most certainly drink, more of what's made in New Brunswick and the Maritime region in 2012.

Years ago that meant driving great distances to try any kind of variety of things produced in this region and usually paying quite a premium, but thankfully in 2012, eating and drinking the region's produce is a lot easier.  Have a look through your neighbourhood market and look for the "local" label. There's a lot more of them lately and on all kinds of stuff.  Fun stuff too - wine, beer, bacon, it's all made pretty close to where we live.

Pumphouse Brewery, pictured above has become a brewery that pumps out a product that's on par with top craft breweries across North America.  Stop in when you're in Moncton or enjoy a pint from any of the bars and restaurants that have their beers on tap in the Maritime region.

On a recent trip to Halifax, we made a point to dive into some local wines including some wonderful new ones from the Luckett winery, the same Luckett behind the storied Pete's Frootique empire.

You haven't lived until you've had some of the fabulous cheeses coming out of Caraquet and other areas of Northeast New Brunswick and if meat and potatoes or seafood is more your speed, New Brunswick is producing some of the world's best in those categories too.

The big picture is we've got it pretty good here so join me in a very easy resolution this new year, to check out more of it.
